Notification when plugins are updated

Posted by: Jennifer In: WordPress Bookmarks to Plugins

I've been trying to figure out a better way to notify people when a plugin is updated. At the moment I've just been leaving a comment in the post – so those who are subscribed to comments, get "notified". Seems now there's a better way:

up2date
From the looks of it, it seems like if I support this plugin in my plugins, it will notify users of my plugins when I make an update. I'll look into this further, and if it makes sense I'll support it.

Looks promising. The only caveat is that you have to disable and renable any plugins that support it, after enabling the updater. However, I've contacted the author with two different ideas for working around that. Perhaps something like this will make it into WP 1.3

There is another mechanism to do this as well, explained on the wiki, but the plugin method seems much easier for users.

Pity, because I used the old method for all the plugins I wrote… I hope the two are compatible.
