Naming issues in MT

Posted by: Jennifer In: Lessons learned

Remember a few days ago I was having major problems with this site? I think I *just* realized what may have caused the problem.

It all began when I added that "resouces" page. the page is actually very simple… nothing different on that page than what's on other pages…

The only thing that seemed to "fix" the problem was naming the page (not the FILENAME) "resourcelinks" instead of "resources"

At first I thought that maybe the "resources" name was something like a reserved word… but I realized just now… I actually ALSO have a MT INCLUDE ALSO named "resources"…

If this really was what caused the site to stop rebuilding… it should have done some sort of error checking before it let me name it that – to tell me that that was a no-no…

What do you think? You think that was it?
(I'm afraid to test it out – to see if that was really it… maybe tonight, I'll crash Sam's blog and see if I can re-create the problem! LOL!)

If this was the case – I'll have to send an email to Ben…

Hmmmmm. Very interesting! I have no clue and like you, I'm too scared to try it. LOL. Sounds very plausible though!

That sounds like a plausible issue. I just looked through TRK's template list to see if I had any modules that were named the same as indexes (with 50 indexes, it wouldn't be suprising!), but nope.
I'd tell Ben! He understands the concepts best, and would probably want to fix it if it is a bug :)

Although . . hmmmm. . I've had two index templates with the same name and even outputting to the same file (quite by accident!) and it didn't hang up on me. If anything would hang up you'd think something like that would…

Odd.

I just posted it on the MT boards – bug reports.

Hey! Do I get a t-shirt with a bug on it if I found a real bug?? LOL! (just kidding)

Hey, I'll make you a bug shirt… with my new found t-shirt making talents 😉

And I just noticed that I have a module named recent and an index template named Recent in hopelessromantics, but case really does matter in everything else MT, so its probably not the same thing!

Hmmm… interesting. Yeah, it should tell you if you are using the same name. Love MT, but there are still some minor, minor issues…
