Site updates

Tuesday, April 12th, 2005

Just so you don’t think I’ve dropped off the face of the earth…. I should be able to post some more (personal) related news here on May 2 - and have plans to be around here a lot more starting in June. Until then, life and things are up in the air, and I can’t really talk about them here just yet. (Not until after May 2)

In any case, I’m here. The site is not going away (in fact, a redesign is in the works! more info on that coming too) Just taking a little down time to get my life in order. :) Stay tuned.

WP Subscribe To Comments updated

Thursday, March 10th, 2005

A huge huge thanks to Mark - who took it upon himself to update the WP Subscribe To Comments plugin. Many of the issues people were having should now be fixed.

(Please note that with this latest version - support for WP 1.2 ceases - but the previous version of subscribe to comments worked fine with that version, and is still available for download. So - if you haven’t upgraded WP to 1.5 - you don’t need to do this upgrade)

Above The Fold

Wednesday, January 12th, 2005

I’ve been a little absent around here lately, and part of the reason is that I’ve been working on a project that I can now formally announce here! I’m starting up a little side business. You see, I’ve always loved doing origami - from the time that I was a kid. I can’t even remember when I started. And now I’ve decided to turn some of my creations into things I can share. Ok… sell. :D My little side business is called Above The Fold (AboveTheFold.org) and it’s an online store for (at the moment) origami earrings, cards, and magnets. (More things will be coming).

(As for the .org - instead of the .com - the squatter “owner” of the .com is willing to sell it… for a mere $7K! heh. I’ll be lucky if I sell 5 pairs of earrings this whole year!! LOL! I don’t think it’s in my budget!)

This may not seem very “scripty” related - but actually it is. When working on my ecommerce site, I briefly looked into some pre-made web-shops, but they were all a little “too big” for what I wanted to do. I wanted to add products easily. I wanted to have “add to cart” buttons automatically generated.. etc. etc. I thought I’d just start writing something on my own - but then realized that I could probably do A LOT of what I wanted with WordPress!! Not sure how many ecommerce sites are WordPress driven - but I did it quite easily. Now that it’s up and running, I can see more “ecommerce” type “plugins” I can add - but for now, I’m busy making origami.

But I thought, for those interested, I might share some of my little tricks that make the site run. Many of them are take-offs on what I did for Christine with Pixelog.

Breaking the standard format here to do some good ol’ fashion begging…

After hearing that this offer was legit - and Christine DID in fact get her free ipod, I figured I’d give it a try too. So, here’s my pathetic plea: Please click here and help me get a free ipod. Pretty please with sugah on top! :D [link removed because the more this goes on - the more this stinks of SCAM!!!!!!]

Updated afterwards: Just so you know, you’ll have to sign up and act on one of their offers. I think the two most interesting ones are for the ink and Blockbuster. I did Blockbuster. You only have to stay a “member” for the two week (free) trial period, and then you can cancel and it still counts. So, you get to watch (at least) three movies for free… Seeing how I have tons of time to watch movies (not) I’ll probably cancel after those two weeks are up.

Thanks everyone who’ve signed up so far!! :D

UPDATEI just posted this in the comments, but wanted to add it to the post as well…Well if you’d like to know the catch it’s this: I have had PLENTY of people sign up, however, only 3 are marked as having completed the offer. Some of these people I know for a FACT have actually completed the offer, yet they haven’t updated the accounts. I contacted their customer service, and I got an automated response back. Stinks of SCAM to me…

Previous Archive Date / Next Archive Date plugin updated

Monday, June 28th, 2004

I just finished making some major changes to the Previous Archive Date / Next Archive Date links plugin. Just wanted to give the heads up.

Some important plugin updates:

Wednesday, June 23rd, 2004

I put that list of recently updated posts in the sidebar - but wanted to make sure these got noticed since they’re more important. In some cases the changes were only minor - but in others the changes were much bigger. Either way, if you use these scripts, get the latest version:

Poll - What to do next?

Friday, June 11th, 2004

I do have a limited amount of free time to work on “side projects” like this - but I wanted to get the most bang for the buck. So I wanted to see which feature people wanted more. You should see a poll in the sidebar now - go ahead and cast your vote. :)

I should note, that
1) I can’t guarantee that it will be a quick turnaround. There’s still a few items on the to do list for THIS site that I want to get to first (as well - I have three other blogs that I want to switch over to WP)
and
2) I’m not even sure I can even DO everything that I have listed there. LOL! Some of them may simply be out of my range of what I am capable of - but I’ll certainly give it a shot!

If there’s something that you would like to have on that list - I looked high and low for a polling script that allowed user “write in”s - didn’t find one. So we’ll have to settle for you either leaving a comment on that original post - or leaving a comment on the poll itself (which will probably be checked less often)

P.S. - because of the whole mod-rewrite thing - I don’t think the poll works on anything but the “home” page. There’s probably a fix for this, but I’m too lazy to figure it out at the moment. So - if you want to vote - make sure you’re on the main/home page.

Question for MT to WP converts (or those thinking about it)

Monday, June 7th, 2004

There were so many hacks/plugins etc, that were created or mentioned on this site specifically for MT. To those of you who have converted, or who are thinking of converting - what plugin/hack/thing-a-ma-jig did you used to have for MT that you wish you could have now.

I think there is very little (if anything at all?!) that I did in MT that couldn’t be done as easily (if not EASIER!!) in WordPress. So, while I can’t say I’ll promise to get to everything right away, I’d like to re-create as many tutorials as possible for WordPress.

Leave a comment and let me know what you’d like to see. (Even better if you give the specific link to the older tutorial)

Color Tool Category

Saturday, June 5th, 2004

I love how easily you can create a category hierarchy in wordpress… Just for kicks - I made a subcategory to “Bookmarks” just for all the color tools I’ve linked to, then went through and added as many posts as I could find that seemed appropriate.
