I got rid of my blog spam once and for all back in 2004 with the knockout combo of Bad Behavior and Spam Karma. While I suppose Spam Karma is a lot like a self-hosted version of Akismet, the goodness of Bad Behavior can't be overstated since it's keeping away more than just the spammy comments.

(SCRIPTYGODDESS/BLOG AUTHOR NOTE TO PR: @"PR" – ironic that you should post about spam. I've seen a comment or two from you on this site. Based on your "name" and the fact that you opted to use a bogus email I chose previously not to include your comment on my site. I would greatly appreciate your using a REAL email address. If you host a blog that can be a victim of spam – then I'm sure you can understand this request. I never publish email addresses of those who comment on my site – but I do use it sometimes to verify the comment poster is in fact a real person.)
