del.icio.us is delicious

I am having ALOT of fun posting and getting bookmarks from del.icio.us. I was a bit bummed though that every now and then, I get a funky error - something about the service not being available. And I’m reminded why I like things on my own server. So while I plan on continuing to use del.icio.us to bookmark stuff - I wanted to know how to export those links - and maybe, once a week, do a post here with a recap of all the links I posted there.

Apparently del.icio.us has an API you could hook into with various apps, I found some very brief documentation here.

I fount this wordpress/del.icio.us plugin by LinuxBrit. And another one from Among Other Things.

Updated to add:

Just found this script taga.lici.us on planet ozh (from, where else, but on del.icio.us)

It’s very unlikely but the 503 errors might be due to the fact that you’re throttled by the server. There’s some doc on this at http://del.icio.us/doc/api.

And there’s a client app you might be interested in: Cocoal.icio.us (Can be found at http://scifihifi.com/cocoalicious/.

When I’ve gotten those 503 errors - it’s NOT usually when I’ve been on it in the last hour+, so I would be surprised if it’s a throttling issue. If that’s the case - then there’s something wrong with the throttle.

I tried quite some WP plugins to fetch del.icio.us links on my site, but they all seemed to breach the terms of use of del.icio.us (namely, not as many hits from a script as your homepage, i.e. use some caching). All but one: LinuxBrit’s, which works like a charm. Go for it, if I may give my advice!

I have moved from my link blog to del.icio.us. I used a PHP parser to parse the RSS feed to include on my site. Then with FeedBurner, you can automatically include a daily list of del.icio.us links to your site. It is kind of cool!

del.icio.us cached 1.1 is a little mod to this del.icio.us plugin that has a simple chaching mechanism.

Actually - this post on the support boards looks like it might do what I want…
