Using your MT template in WordPress

Having recently redesigned the site - I wasn’t really intrested in trashing it and starting fresh. It wasn’t really that difficult to switch the template over. (I’m still tweaking it a little bit, but I’m very close!)

Basically, I just copied my template into a text editor and swaped the MT tags for the WP equivalent. In some cases using a simple find and replace. (Like for permalinks and post ids)

Here’s some very useful links I’ve been referring to A LOT:
Moving from MT to WordPress
(I already linked this - but it’s so useful, it’s worthy of being linked again. While I move my blog over, I’ve gone to this page so many times I lost count. Maybe I should just make it my home page when I start up my browser! LOL!)

Template Tags (wordpress wiki)

I should add that one of the coolest things I like about wordpress is how easy it is to create and add plugins. I suspect that a lot of my “tutorials” will be reduced to - Here’s the plugin - load it, and you’re good to go. LOL! YAY WordPress!

The templates are the only thing I have had problems with. I am hoping at least a few of the great template designers we had for MT will convert as well :) All in all though. I have been using Wordpress a few weeks before the MT tragedy and I love it!

Thanks for posting this Jennifer. If I decide to switch to Wordpress this will help for sure. I am kinda stuck on the fence between Wordpress and EE. EE has member registration and such which I like, but WP is moving so quickly who knows where it might end up :) Thanks again Jennifer!

Kolby K., perhaps you got in on the one year free EE deal, but what if they want you to pay the next year?
WP has member registration too, and the open architecture makes it easy to create working solutions and share them :)

Is the registration feature for members to be able to register to comment? That’s what I want. Something so people have to register to comment.
