Find out your own IP

Posted by: Jennifer In: Bookmarks

Quick – wanna know what your IP is: IP Chicken.

No, it's not totally script related. Sorry. Yes, there are many other ways of finding that out with command line scary stuff. Just had to post that link because I didn't want to lose it. (and besides, it's funny) :)

Is this a big problem when an error comes with open port?

I'd ignore that – I think that's their way of making money on the site…

You can also do this, if you use Windows, by typing "winipcfg" in the Run box and pressing ok.

An update to Kyle's comments:
WinIPcfg only works up until XP. But it only works for the IP address of your network adapter – for a lot of people that IP is different than the IP address of the connection (which is what IPChicken & et al) show.

Now if you're on Mac, -nix, etc….Ugh! Why bother?! How much harder can we make this bookmark?!

Just visit http://www.ipchicken.com and or similar. :)

Ah, this is very handy – I could have used it recently for Lynda's "use a link to edit your posts from the main page" script. Thanks for the tip!

Hehe, you don't have your IP memorized?! :) (Kidding – I just have a thing with memorizing numbers; I can't help it!)
