Lorem ipsum…

if you've ever had to spec a design before (and put in dummy copy) this link might come in handy. It'll generate "greek" text for you - just the right amount you need.

Great link… I *used* to have a plug-in for Dreamweaver that did this but have lost it somehow. BTW - it is Latin, not Greek :)

Loopy - sorry… you're right. Technically the text is "latin" - in the graphic design world they call it "greek" text (or "dummy" text). "greek" not being a literal description…

Yes, the term 'greeking' simply means to fill up the area with non-readable text that might simulate a typical set of text. Historically, early designers chose to use greek letters because then the text would be obvious nonsensical and would be replaced with the real text when the copy checkers ran through the design. At least, that's the way I learned it in my magazine production class ;)

You see that! Learn something new everyday. Actually, I didn't know that was the reason they call it "greek" text. (Shows where I got (most of) my education from… on the job! LOL!)

When I was doing design for a company, I always kept a lorem_ipsum.txt file lying around. Except that I made a few modifications.

    I slipped in a lot of 'fnord's.

The clients who got it, thought it was hysterical. Most didn't get it, so I just never said a word.

While testing my new design with some placeholder text yesterday, I ran across this lorem ipsum text generator from scriptygoddess.
