Scriptygoddess redesign: call for feedback :)

Over the next few days I’ll be planning out a re-design of this site to encorporate some of the feedback we’ve been getting. For example some things on the to do list:

-add search feature
-add “side bar” forum (just for general questions and script requests)
-add download “section” for all scripts…

One thing I’m thinking of doing with some of our scripts - rather than do a traditional readme - Lynda’s readme was REALLY cool on that comment-subscription script. I’m thinking about doing all readme’s that way. It makes figuring out what you have to copy and paste SO CLEAR….

So… here’s your chance to put your $.02 in… Can’t guarantee that I can give you everything you ask for :) but I’d love to get your feedback on how this site could be made more useful for you…

This all sounds good!! Let me know if you need any help - even just converting skins over :)
Hopefully sometime today, I’ll have time to put together my newest MT brainstorm to post over here :)

I think the categories section needs to be up closer to the top (if not AT the top in some sort of top-navbar). Scrolling through the recent posts, bloglet, recent comments, about us section, etc is confusing. :)

I think “resources” should be on a separate page and I think we should remove links to individual people’s blogs. I just think that’s sort of unfair and I know we can add our own links, but . . . I dunno, it serves no real purpose here.

What would be a better and more fair idea is perhaps a “thanks to linking to us” page that lists everyone we’ve found linking to us (sort of like aortal does).

If someone has a blog we think the readers of this site might find helpful, we can put them under “resources” but I don’t think we should have a “friends” section, especially since we’re growing and in no way can accommodate all of our personal links.

I’ll think of more to actually suggest functionality later.

By the way, were you saying my readme file wasn’t traditional? Every script I’ve ever downloaded has a readme file that looks like that.. hehe.

Hey Kristine! I’ll email you if you don’t see this later, but would there be anyway of creating your “css skin” for this site with a WHITE background instead of grey? I LOVE it, but my eyes can’t support that dark grey background for some reason. :)
(sorry, unrelated to the entry. hehe)

Hey Jenn, one more thing that I thought of… can we add a archive that sorts by author? Sometimes, I remember who posted the thread, but not which category it went into. I know there’s not an automatic way to do it, but we/I could set up on like trk has, and then when/if we add new authors, we’d just need to add onto the file.

Lynda, on my monitor, this isn’t really very dark… inside the text box is darker, but the background is a pretty light grey. I’ll see if I can make it a little lighter; white tends to glare on my eyes and make me more suseptible to have a headache over time!

  5. Lynda Says:

Kristine - I understand you’d rather have it as grey. I was asking if you could create a NEW skin (when you have time) with the exact same thing, but a WHITE background.

That’s the fun of having skins, everyone is happy. hehe. :)

I also like the idea of sorting by authors. :) And if my unorganized self could get her act together, I’d make a few category suggestions too. But she can’t. lol

  7. Jennifer Says:

Lynda - Yours is the first I’ve seen like that. :) All the readme’s I’ve ever seen are plain old ugly .txt fles. I love your way so much better!!

  8. Jennifer Says:

p.s - all these are great suggestions… so keep ‘em coming! :D

one of the best things i’ve seen lately is the “removable/collapsable” sidebar thingies at lynda’s site.

it’s be handy if you didn’t want the links or recent comments or whatever………

  10. Row Says:

What I want from you guys is a linking button!

And Lynda’s collapsible sidebar modules are too cool. Incorporating those would be excellent.

  11. Lynda Says:

hehe. I want to release the code as soon as I learn more about cookies. Amy has a customized sidebar as well, although it works completely differently with completely different code. lol. Hers is probably more “sound” although I haven’t had any problems at all with mine yet.

Maybe I’ll just write up a tutorial anyway and people can do what’s easiest for them. :)

  12. kristine Says:

I think the collapsble sidebar is pretty cool. I also like the hiding sidebar thats on my knots skin. Its kinda a fun dhtml thing and might be nice to keep things orderly… but not as cool over here. LOL, that was a pointless paragraph, wasn’t it?!

Lynda, I’ll get a lightened version of the css skin up for you very soon :) I’ve got about 13 windows of things I’m working on that have to be done first (before I go to bed hopefully!)

  13. Lynda Says:

Ohh! There’s another solution. I love Kristine’s collapsable sidebar. :)
I was looking into that but got too into the idea of what I have now. hehe.

and Kristine, no big rush or anything!! Take care of yourself first.
